‘It’s hard being Martin’s son, he’s better looking’

ROMAN Kemp says it’s tough having a heart-throb for a dad because it means he gets less attention from girls.
He says he can’t compete with Spandau Ballet star Martin, 58, when it comes to looks.
Roman, 27, told the Daily Star Sunday: “It’s really hard to be his son, and there are a couple of reasons why. One is that he’s really good looking and you’ll always be second best to your dad in terms of looks. That’s quite tough.
“I get messages online saying ‘How fit is your dad!.’ It’s just all about my dad. That’s just how it is. I’ve come to accept that. People love him.”
Martin doesn’t deny he’s a sex symbol and added: “We kind of have different audiences – definitely different age groups.”
Over the years Roman has been left blushing over his actor dad’s sex appeal. He said: “My dad always embarrasses me, but in funny ways. When I was growing up, the only type of thing that really embarrassed me was if he was in a sex scene and my friends had seen it. Now I don’t care. I’m proud of the work that he’s done.”
Roman and Martin, who are fronting a new ITV chat show together, have always been close.
They spend so much time together that Father’s Day isn’t important. Roman said: “We’ve never really done Father’s Day, because we do just feel like four friends in our household.
“He’s a fantastic dad and he knows this, but I always want to make sure he knows I idolise how he’s been with me and my sister.”
Like many families today, they’ll catch up on Father’s Day with a video call. Martin said: “A good dog walk and Sunday lunch sounds perfect, and maybe a family Zoom.”
Roman joked: “Hopefully Arsenal have won over the weekend because then he’ll be in a decent enough mood.”
The pair have been able to see each other during lockdown because they work together on Celebrity Gogglebox and their chat show, Martin & Roman’s Sunday Best!
Martin said: “This has been such a hard time for some people. I’m the first to realise how lucky Ro and I are.”
