Royally letdown BUT THESE ASCOT LOSERS WILL OFFER MUCH MORE

IF YOU love having a bet on the big meetings, then you will know there is nothing is more frustrating when you don’t get a run for your money.

So here are the four eye-catchers that should and could have done a deal better at Royal Ascot.

IT HAS undoubtedly been a brilliant week for gentleman Jim Crowley but perversely his ride in the Queen Anne Stakes on day one aboard was moderate to say the least.

Going easily at the back of the pack, JC found he had nowhere to go with the pack converging to the stands’ side in front of him.

By the time the gaps opened up, the four-yearold flew home under minimum pressure to finish a never-nearer seventh.

I suspect seven furlong will prove his optimum trip but there is no reason why he shouldn’t stay a mile.

AIDAN O’BRIEN has his usual array of middle distance three-year-olds and his is worth keeping on the right side following his second in the King Edward VII Stakes on Tuesday to 18-1 outsider Pyledriver.

I have marked up his effort considerably as the field merely cantered along in the middle section of the race.

That slow pace wouldn’t have suited this stamina-laden charge and long term, I could certainly see him becoming a major player in the St Leger.

THE Royal Hunt Cup was won in devastating style by Dark Vision but it was the fifth home, that made the biggest impression in this famous cavalry charge.

Covered up early, he weaved his way through the field in the last quarter mile and was finishing best of all.

He is clearly a bit of a character but a fast run race with cover looks his call and the Cambridgeshire could well be his race.

RYAN MOORE is undoubtedly one of the world’s best in the saddle but his ride on left plenty to be desired in the Wolferton Stakes, won by Mountain Angel.

Given plenty to do by the former champion, he fairly flew down the home stretch making up the best part of six lengths on the eventual winner.

Given a slightly more positive ride, I am sure last year’s Epsom Derby fifth would have won.
