Bren’s still confident in race for top four

- SIMON MULLOCK

BRENDAN RODGERS promised Leicester’s Champions League dream will not be derailed by the disappointment of conceding an injury-time equaliser at Vicarage Road.

The Foxes seemed certain to move 10 points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United when England full-back Ben Chilwell rifled them into a 90th-minute lead.

But Watford landed a crucial blow of their own in the third minute of added time when Craig Dawson hooked home an equally stunning overhead kick.

Leicester remain in third place and Rodgers said: “We wanted the three points – and I thought we deserved them. But if you can’t win, you’ve got to make sure you don’t lose – and we ended up taking a point that takes us closer to where we want to be.

“We certainly won’t be derailed by this.

“If I analyse it back, the luck just went against us right at the end.

“We had spells in the game where we had good control and threat and Ben Foster made a couple of fantastic saves before we scored a brilliant goal.

“It’s hard for me to criticise the players because if the luck goes against you there isn’t much you can do about it.”

Leicester have now won one of their last six games after Dawson’s first goal for the Hornets prevented Nigel Pearson’s men from sliding into the bottom three.

Pearson said: “Craig says he practises overhead kicks in training – but I’m not sure about that. He’s a very committed and the goal was an illustration of the spirit we have inside this football club.

“It’s too easy to give in. We’re trying to fight out of a very difficult situation and the players and staff are very committed to maintaining our status in the Premier League.”
