Phoebe’s winning Run ends as US show axed
FLEABAG star Phoebe Waller-Bridge has seen her debut US show hit the skids.
Dark comedy-thriller Run has already been cancelled by major network HBO after just one series.
It is the first hiccup in the Emmy and Golden Globewinning writer’s career. The seven-part show, which also starred Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson, was penned by Waller-Bridge and her Killing Eve and Fleabag co-creator Vicky Jones.
Sources said that the series, which was a hit with critics, “failed to connect with HBO’s comedy audience”.
A US TV source said: “Run was liked by network bosses at a time when Fleabag and Killing Eve were the hottest things on the planet. However,
Run just did not translate to HBO audiences as expected.
“Negotiations took place about how to move forward and attempt to capture a wider viewership, but the creative process stalled and both parties walked away.”
