the latest odd revelation involving Gwrych Castle, inset, which locals say is haunted.

One show insider told us: “The celebs will be braced for horrible trials and wet weather.

“But they could get something far more terrifying – an alien invasion.

“Producers have picked an area that has had numerous unexplained sightings.

“If there are any extra-terrestrial visitors, it will certainly make for good telly.” The most striking claim about alien activity in the area came from investigator Russ Kellett. He claimed that an alien craft was found by the Ministry of Defence at nearby Puffin Island as part of a secret military operation in the 1970s.

The island is just across the sea off Anglesey.

Mr Kellett reckons soldiers came face to face with creatures from another planet.

The visitors were loaded into a vehicle and the discovery was then hushed up to avoid panic.

Years later, in 1988, three joggers said they saw a flying saucer hovering in the sky over the village of Dwygyfylchi in north Wales.

Then, in 1998, a retired police officer claimed he witnessed an alien spaceship above Abergele on three separate evenings.

Five years ago, a dark shape was also spotted hovering down the coast above Caernarfon Castle.

The area is so infamous for sightings that it is a recommended spot for UFO fans to buy a home.

It has also emerged there are claims Gwrych Castle is haunted by a floating woman in white.

Stars tipped to take part in the new series include presenter Vernon Kay, 46, ex-footballer John Barnes, 56, and former EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite, 49.
