CARRA WARNS OLE THAT IT’S NOW OR NEVER TO GET JADON

- SIMON MULLOCK

KOP legend Jamie Carragher has warned Manchester United that Liverpool will launch a bid to sign Jadon Sancho if the Old Trafford club fail to pay the winger’s

£108million asking price this summer. Carragher believes the financial ramifications of the coronavirus pandemic have prevented Jurgen Klopp from trying to hijack United’s bid for Borussia Dortmund star Sancho, 20. And he feels that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is unwilling to pull the trigger on a Britishrecord bid, after wasting a fortune on failed signings like Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria and Romelu Lukaku. But Carragher has told Woodward to seal a deal for Sancho (right) now – or face a Liverpool challenge for his signature next summer.

With the big Premier League kick-off just six days away, the Sky Sports expert said: “United have got a clear run at Sancho now – but that will change if he’s still at Dortmund next year.

“I’d be very surprised if Liverpool didn’t try to sign him next summer. That’s why I think United will eventually pay what they have to for him.

“They are one of maybe two teams in the Premier League who still have the finances to spend big after the pandemic.

“When United paid big fees for players in the past we laughed and said, ‘They’ve been done again’. People called Ed Woodward a joke because selling clubs could get an extra £10million or

£20million from him.

“Now Borussia Dortmund have asked

£108million for Sancho – and because United haven’t paid it straight away everyone is criticising them again.

“Ed Woodward is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. He can’t win.”

Carragher (below) has tipped champions Liverpool to be fighting it out with Manchester City again at the top of the Premier League and feels Solskjaer needs more quality to mount a challenge.

But he believes the gap started to close when United paid Sporting Lisbon £47m for Bruno Fernandes in January. Carragher added: “I don’t think United are as far away as people think. One or two signings could make that difference. Signing Fernandes in January changed the club. “That’s how close it is. “It could be that Jadon comes in and suddenly Man United are challenging.”
