GOLDEN GIRLS CLASH

- CHRIS GOULDING

JUMP racing’s two iconic leading female riders Rachael Blackmore and Bryony Frost will go head-to-head in this season’s Cheltenham Gold Cup for the first time. Blackmore confirmed yesterday that she will partner Minella Indo, her first Cheltenham Festival winner in the 2019 Albert Bartlett Hurdle, in preference to A Plus

Cup.

Frost will continue her remarkable partnership with Frodon.

Last month, Frost made history when becoming the first woman to celebrate success in the King George VI Chase on Frodon at Kempton. Frodon’s success was Frost’s 175th career success, making her the all-time leading female jump jockey.

Blackmore is also currently attempting to make a huge slice of history by becoming Ireland’s first female champion jump jockey.

The unassuming Blackmore is just one winner of adrift of the season’s leading rider Paul Townend. If bookmakers are to be believed she has the best chance of celebrating gold at Cheltenham in March with Minella Indo, an 8-1 chance. Frodon is available at 14-1.

Blackmore has serious business ahead next weekend too and nominates Honeysuckle, her ride in Saturday’s Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown, as the one she is most looking forward to riding most at the two-day Dublin Festival.
