Julian’s keeping eye on

Progress

- EXCLUSIVE by SIMON MULLOCK

JULIAN DICKS cannot wait to watch two of his former clubs go head to head this afternoon.

The West Ham favourite spent 11 years at Upton Park over two spells. In between there was an ill-fated move to Liverpool.

Dicks made 28 appearances for the Merseyside club before returning to London and he will be an interested observer when Jurgen Klopp’s champions travel to the London Stadium today, with David Moyes’ Hammers two points behind them in the table.

Dicks said: “I spent the best years of my career at West Ham and it’s great seeing them doing so well this season because the fans deserve to support a successful team.

“David Moyes is showing what a good manager he is again after taking on an impossible job by trying to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Man United.

“Playing Liverpool will be a big test of how far West Ham have progressed because Jurgen Klopp has turned them back into the club they were in the 1980s when they would absolutely batter teams.

“Back in 1993, when I moved to Liverpool, they had only gone a few years without winning the title.

“I didn’t really want to leave West Ham because I was so happy there but I couldn’t turn down one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play with players like John Barnes, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.

“It just wasn’t a good fit and when I returned to West Ham it was like going home again. But I don’t have any regrets. I am proud to say I was once a Liverpool player.”
