Goal-den boy Adam produces late show

PITCHING IN: Armstrong

RELIEVED Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray praised his players for a job well done on a poor Ewood Park pitch.

Adam Armstrong’s 17th goal of a stellar season won it for Rovers with five minutes remaining.

But the hosts rode their luck as the Hatters hit the post at the death and had a Harry Cornick goal controversially ruled out for offside.

Blackburn skipper Darragh Lenihan also spurned a glorious chance for the hosts before Liverpool loan teenager Harvey Elliott blazed over when in a great position.

Mowbray said: “It’s not how I ultimately want to play, but the pitch doesn’t allow us to play that way at the moment.

“We’re being forced to play very direct at the moment.

“We’d all love to play Manchester City football, but even Man City couldn’t play their type of football on our pitch.

“But it’s a good win because they’re a dangerous team.

“It wasn’t great at times, but I tell the players they have to find a way to win. One bit of quality won it.”

Luton manager Nathan Jones was sick as a dog after the defeat.

He said: “I literally feel physically sick, we shouldn’t have lost that game today.

“I wouldn’t say we were robbed, but we switched off for 10 seconds and that’s cost us the game. “And for our equaliser, well I’m not sure what the offside rule is any more!”
