NOTTINGHAM FOREST face a critical week after a dismal draw left them four points from bottom ot the table.

And it could have been a a lot worse, but for two saves from Brice Samba.

Forest have lost only one league game in their last eight but Samba saved them with a superb tip over the bar from Herbie Kane’s tremendous volley.

Then he got in the way of Cauley Woodrow’s close-range header before Joe Worrall cleared.

Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael slammed ref Leigh Doughty for not giving a 22nd-minute penalty when Michal Helik seemed to be pulled down as he went for a close-range shot.

“It was gamechanging,” said Ismael. “If the referee had given that penalty and we had scored it could have been a different game.

“I don’t usually comment like this but we had the same kind of thing in our last match against Cardiff.

“So I have to say something. It wasn’t as if the referee didn’t see what happened with Helik, he did and indicated no penalty.”

It was the first time Barnsley had kept a clean sheet in 14 Championship games since beating Forest in November.

Forest haven’t learned a lot in the meantime and boss Chris Hughton now faces critical games away to Coventry on Tuesday and Wycombe on Saturday.

“We have to make sure we pick up enough points,” he said.
