A TEENAGER was fighting for his life in hospital last night after being stabbed during a mass brawl.

The 17-year-old was in a critical condition after being seriously injured in a fight on Friday night.

His injuries were said to be “life-threatening”.

Police said they were called to Westhoughton, in Bolton, at around 9.15pm following reports of a “disturbance and what was believed to be a large group of people fighting”.

Witnesses said that up to 20 young people had been involved.

Two large puddles of blood could be seen, one at a bus stop.

A nearby skip, where a knife is believed to have been discarded, was cordoned off.

No arrests have been made so far and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A PAIR of crooks dressed up as OAPs to try and get an early Covid vaccination.

Officials say the women were turned away and issued with strict warnings.

The pair had worn bonnets, gloves and glasses to disguise themselves in Orange County, Orlando.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Guido said: “Their names matched their registration but not their dates of birth.”

The women were 35 and 45 years old.

Health Department officials asked the sheriff to issue trespass warnings so the pair cannot return to the vaccine centre for any reason.

A FURTHER 445 people had died with Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the UK total to 120,365. There were 10,406 new cases – 4.1million in total. The NHS has now given over 15m vaccines.

BORIS Johnson is under pressure to stagger the reopening of schools, leaving some children stuck at home until April.

The PM planned to have all pupils in England back in class on March 8.

But teaching unions and scientists have warned a “big bang” return would be overwhelming and reckless.

Geoff Barton, of the Association of School and College Leaders, is the latest to call for a “class-by-class” approach.

He said it would be reckless not to phase the return like Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Mr Barton said: “Parents want to be reassured why it suddenly feels right that 10million people, teachers, parents, come back on a single day and possibly risk all the benefits of lockdown so far.”

Academy bosses this week said schools would become “medical centres” if they had to open on March 8.

Steve Chalke, founder of the multiacademy trust Oasis, said mass Covid testing would take them until April 19 to complete.

He said: “If every child has to be tested in school as they come back, twice in the first week, it is a huge logistical exercise.

“You need a waiting area, a testing area, a holding area, an administrative area and an isolation area for people who test positive.”

It came as Downing Street was forced to deny chief scientist Chris Whitty was unhappy with the “big bang” plans.

A Government spokesman insisted he was not against any of the options being discussed.

The roadmap out lockdown is due to be revealed tomorrow by the Prime Minister.

After schools, nonessential shops are expected to open, and if infections continue to fall, pubs and restaurants will be able to serve outdoors in April.

The hospitality sector has been blighted by the lockdowns. of
