IT’S RICH PICKINGS
could talk about the football we played – but we lost.
“And even I don’t want to talk about the football we played now.
“We created an awful lot but in the end we didn’t finish one situation off. We didn’t use the opportunity.
“And that’s just the truth, the story of the game.
“In the end it’s 2-0 which is tough to take – but we have to.”
BROTHERS Sean and Matty Longstaff have been told they may have to quit Newcastle to get their careers back on track.
The warning comes from ex-Magpies ace Alan Thompson, cousin of their father David. The siblings are likely to be on the bench at Old Trafford tonight for their hometown club. And Thompson said: “For Sean and Matty (left) there will come a time when their need to be playing becomes greater than their passion for Newcastle.”
LUKE SHAW’S renaissance is down to sheer hard work – and becoming a dad, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Man United manager reckons the left-back could be in line for an England recall after producing his best form since arriving at Old Trafford in a £30million deal from Southampton more than six years ago.
Solskjaer insists the credit must go to Shaw, 27 (right) – and the responsibility he started to feel after his partner Anouska Santos gave birth to son Reign London in November 2019.
Solskjaer said: “It’s great credit to Luke. We have worked him really, really hard – and that is how a good player becomes a good player again. Luke has shown real dedication and focus – and I think that maybe becoming a dad has helped big time.
“We believe in him. He knew as soon as I came to the club what I thought of him.
“And with Alex Telles coming in, he has realised that he’s going to have to perform to stay in the team because he is up against a really top player.
“Luke has consistently performed at a high level so he’s getting the rewards from that.
“I’m not the England manager. Who gets picked is up to Gareth Southgate. But in my opinion he’s got a decent player on his hands again.”
