War bomb detonated near uni

-

AN explosion could be heard for miles when a Second World War bomb discovered in Exeter was detonated yesterday.

Thousands of residents had been evacuated from their homes after the unexploded device was found.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a 400-metre cordon was in place, with 2,600 properties evacuated on Friday morning.

The device was found on a building site on private land to the west of the University of Exeter campus.

An initial 100-metre cordon was put in place, with evacuations taking place on Friday evening and yesterday morning.

They were at the request of a Royal Navy bomb disposal team, who worked through the night to establish a walled “mitigation structure”.

A police spokesman said: “The examination and detonation of the device has been passed to the Army.”

WE have all got to remember that in order to keep positive we have to look forward and not back.

I know this to be true because I checked my wife’s wine glass last night and it was definitely way more than half full.

Boris’ road map has got us all excited about the prospect of booking a getaway.

Follow my lead, because as soon as I’m done here I’ll be confirming my first trip for 2021.

We’re hopefully off to Iceland in May. If that goes well, I’ll probably look at Asda in June and then Tesco in July…
