ROY HODGSON says he expects big things from fit-again James McCarthy.

The Crystal Palace boss praised the resilience of the midfielder, 30 (right) after the death of his father earlier in the campaign.

“He’s been a bit unlucky because he’s picked up injuries and also personal problems which he’s had to deal with,” said Hodgson, ahead of today’s home derby with Fulham.

“If he plays to the level of his ability it will be hard for some of the other players to knock him off his perch because that is the quality he has.”
