Picks of the day
Dancing On Ice 6pm, ITV
Remember when people used to claim that Strictly Come Dancing was cursed? A few couples may have got together on the ballroom competition but it’s never had a run of bad luck like the one that has struck Dancing On Ice in the past few weeks.
The show has been hit by a combination of Covid-19 and injuries. In fact, so many celebs have been forced to drop out that last week the bosses had to make the difficult decision to pause the live shows and treat us to a selection of highlights instead.
So fingers crossed everyone is still in one piece tonight as Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby bring us the postponed Movie Week. The celebs will be hoping to impress the judges but, really, they deserve points for just making it on to the ice.
Jamie: Keep Cooking Family Favourites 8.30pm, Channel 4
If you watched the first episode of the series last week, you’re probably wishing you had Jamie Oliver’s imagination when it comes to dreaming up exciting new recipes to share with your friends and family.
The next best thing is, of course, taking inspiration from what the chef rustles up for his clan – and tonight he shows us how to make restaurant-quality avocado hollandaise served with beautifully steamed cod and asparagus for a stunning weeknight supper.
Jamie also serves up a simple pizza dough that’s perfect for cooking in a conventional oven, topped with sausage, grapes and pine nuts. Finally, cookery skills clearly run in the family as Jamie’s son Buddy gets involved tonight, knocking up a home-made sun-dried tomato pesto to go with the pizza. ★★★★
Why Is Covid Killing People Of Colour? 9pm, BBC One
As a black man, Homeland and Supergirl actor David Harewood is nearly three times more likely to die from Covid-19.
So what is it about being black that puts him at such an increased risk?
A big risk factor is the job that you do. People from minority ethnic backgrounds are more likely to be frontline key workers and be exposed to the virus. David asks if enough is being done to protect them at work. Meanwhile, he also tries to find out why so many people from minority communities are doing these frontline jobs. He visits his sister Sandra in Birmingham to discuss their parents’ experiences as new migrants to the UK in the 1950s and looks at how skin colour and discrimination impact employment opportunities.
Gordon Ramsay’s Bank Balance 9pm, BBC One
Although there have been none of the X-rated roastings he dished out on Hell’s Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares, Gordon Ramsay has still indulged in his fair share of swearing on this post-watershed quiz.
At the start of last week’s first episode, the fiery chef made it clear who the show’s participants would be dealing with. “What our contestants need is a fluffy game show host by their side,” he said. “Well, they’ve got me.” Bank Balance continues tonight as more brave contestants answer general knowledge questions in the hope of earning different-sized stacks of gold bars.
They then place the winnings on an increasingly unstable balance board and hope that they stay there long enough to win the £100,000 jackpot.
