QUINN PREDICTS OLE’S RED DREAD

- By

NIALL QUINN admits he fears for Manchester United in the derby with City today and reckons it would be “the result of the season” if they take all three points.

The former Maine Road favourite, 54, says that while there is no silverware on the line, even a draw for Ole

Gunnar Solskjaer should be enough to appease the Old

Trafford faithful.

They have witnessed their side slip from the top of the Premier League table in January and been completely blown away in the race for the title by their bitter rivals.

City are looking to make it 22 consecutive victories in all competitions at The Etihad and extend their 14-point lead at the top of the table in the process.

United went into this weekend in second spot, with just two wins from their last eight league games.

For Quinn (above), who remembers being on the wrong side of the city during the 1990s when Sir Alex Ferguson built an all-conquering empire, the shift in power is enjoyable to watch.

“The run they are on has been unprecedented. Incredible,” he said. “All United can do about it is try to stop it. This game always takes me back. We (City) finished fifth twice but we may as well have been last. United started to win things. Each time we played it was to try stop them cause they were on a gallop.

“It will be the result of the season if United win. Even a draw would be a tremendous result.

“As someone who played for City and remembers a time when the fans looked across in envy at Old Trafford, I’m delighted for them to be able to enjoy this success.

“For United they must salvage something from City’s dominance over the last few months.

“Can they do it? Who in their right mind would say that City could be stopped the way they are playing right now?

“I fear for Manchester United that they will probably need to have a great day and City a really bad one for them to do it.”

Despite all the plaudits coming their way, with a potential Quadruple on the horizon and the league title within touching distance, Quinn insists City won’t lose focus.

He added: “For them, when they are on a roll like this, they won’t be getting tangled up in the what ifs and maybes.”
