FANS OF JAZZ SO NICE & HAPPY

- ■ by DAVE JARVIS sunday@dailystar.co.uk

NIIIICE! Chilled-out jazz fans are the happiest people in Britain, says a study.

Researchers who analysed more than two million social media posts by music lovers found that jazz fans posted the happiest comments.

They said the genre – parodied by John Thomson’s “Jazzman” TV presenter on The Fast Show – leaves them cheerful and upbeat.

Thomson took the mickey out of the fans with his Jazz Club sketches, in which he appeared relaxed and happy with catchphrases such as “niiiice”, “great” and “wonderful”.

Now the researchers have discovered that out of every

100 online posts by jazz fans,

77 were positive. And they also contained similar words and phrases including “nice”, “wow”, “wonderful” and “so chilled”.

Metal lovers are the second happiest with a rating of 66 out of 100, followed by opera fans in third place with 56 positive comments.

Classical music fans were the unhappiest, polling just 43 in ninth place at the bottom of the table.

Psychologist Sirin Atceken, spokeswoman for shopping website onbuy.com – behind the research – said: “It is no secret that music affects your mental health.

“Jazz physically changes the body and lowers heart rate and pulse, making us feel calmer. Jazz can also improve memory, focus and mood.”
