Glenfinnan Viaduct, Inverness-shire

-

Steam trains sweep around this handsome 100ft tall viaduct, giving passengers an uplifting view of the Glenfinnan Monument and waters of Loch Shiel.

Its elegant curve, spanning 1,000ft, also allows those travelling on the West Highland line to catch sight of the other end of the train.

Built in the 1890s by Robert McAlpine and Sons, it was the first structure in Britain to be made from mass concrete.

This train journey is famous for doubling as the route to Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. The Glenfinnan Station Museum and surrounding walks are a great day out for wizard fans. glenfinnanstationmuseum.co.uk
