Viewers believe she would have been removed by producers if she were a bloke.

One said: “If a man spoke to a woman like that on Love Island there would be uproar and he’d be kicked out of the villa.

“Why is it acceptable that a woman can do that to a man?”

Another said: “If a man exploded like Faye did they would be straight up kicked out the show.” A third added: “Faye is emotionally bullying Teddy.”

Many were concerned about 26-year-old Teddy’s well-being after he was seen breaking down in tears. And last night show fans suggested he should be saved from facing any more of Faye’s fury.

They included comedian Rob Beckett, inset above right, who posted: “Anyone wanna help me try to rescue Teddy from the villa? Let’s meet at Gatwick at 6am and get the first flight.”

Psychotherapist Lucy Beresford warned there should be an intervention, saying: “I feel on social media, but many viewers were outraged by the taunts. One said: “People need to remember Faye’s family have her social media and are seeing all the horrific things you are saying about her.

“Her family doesn’t need to be seeing death threats and disgusting comments, I hope they are all OK after tonight.” Faye has previously blamed her behaviour on trust issues. Earlier in the series, she said: “To give somebody the control is really hard because I don’t want to give that side of me again to not be able to get it back.”

Show bosses have insisted all contestants are given support behind the scenes.

An ITV spokesman said: “Welfare and duty of care towards our contributors is always our primary concern, and we take the emotional well-being of all the Islanders extremely seriously.

“We have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times who monitor and regularly speak to all of the Islanders in private and off camera, especially if someone appears to be upset.”

ITV expanded its mental health support for contestants this year after two former contestants took their own lives.
