Jed crowd pleaser is a Rowett freezer

- By STEVE JUDGE

JED WALLACE may not be in a rush to sign a new Millwall contract but he wasted no time in showing where his focus is right now.

The Lions forward needed just 11 minutes of the new season to get off the mark with a 20-yard left-foot drive.

Wallace immediately ran the length of the pitch to celebrate with the 2,500 delirious fans packed in the away end.

It was a moment all supporters have been longing for but one Lions boss Gary Rowett wished had not taken so much out of his players.

He said: “Ironically I don’t think that helped us.

“All of the players sprinted to celebrate to be with our fans, which I can understand. The emotion of the game is what football is all about and what we have missed.

“It was nice as well for Jed to show his situation at the moment won’t affect him.

“He wants to play well for the club, he wants to play well for the fans and he will relish those moments.

............. 1 ..1

He is a big-game player. But if you watch afterwards we lost a bit of energy for ten minutes. So maybe we will reserve some of those celebrations for the right time later in the game.”

QPR levelled in the

31st-minute when the visiting midfield parted to allow the outstanding Rob Dickie to step out of defence and let fly with an unstoppable

25-yard drive. Delighted manager Mark Warburton said: “I thought Rob was very, very good today.

“He stepped in and controlled the ball, took responsibility to go in tight and mark.

“Aerially he was strong right to the end of the game.”
