Schopp’s so happy to make his Mark

BARNSLEY COVENTRY

- By AARON SUTCLIFFE Romal Palmer J Busby

BARNSLEY boss Markus Schopp admitted he enjoyed every second of the Tykes’ win against Coventry, his first since joining the club as head coach in the summer.

Dominik Frieser’s first-half strike proved the difference between the teams, finished well into the bottom left corner after he was played through by the excellent Romal Palmer.

And Viktor Gyokeres had an injury-time penalty saved by Bradley Collins, after Jamie Allen had been tripped in the box by Jordan Williams, which secured Barnsley’s first win of the campaign.

The Tykes welcomed fans back to Oakwell and Schopp was delighted with their passion.

He said: “It was great to play with supporters, we enjoyed every second even though it was a tough game.

“The fans came back with passion and they were expecting something, it was so important for us to give them that feeling that we’ll give everything.

“It was very naive how we played five minutes before the end, it’s something to improve.

“Goalkeepers always dream about moments like that, to save a last-minute penalty.”

Coventry failed to back up their opening win and were made to rue missed chances.

Boss Mark Robins said: “We dominated from start to finish but conceded a really poor chance that ended up in the back of the net.

“We have to be more clinical.”
