Warning on festive favourites
PIGS in blankets are the latest Christmas dinner favourite under threat.
Food shortages caused by coronavirus and Brexit have sparked concern they could be missing from festive tables this year.
It comes after fears were raised there will be a shortage of turkeys over the festive season.
The British Meat Processors Association is warning that staff and skills shortages could continue to hamper UK food production.
A spokesman said: “Given the current workforce shortages, meat companies are finding it difficult to see how they’ll dig themselves out of this.
“Christmas favourites like pigs in blankets have to be done well in advance, and normally should have started at the beginning of July.”
Earlier this week it was warned the UK is also facing a national chicken shortage, with the impact expected to be felt by pubs and restaurants.
