Jamie Lee: hell of my addictions

-

HOLLYWOOD star Jamie Lee Curtis has told of her real-life nightmare of being addicted to drugs and booze.

The actress, 62, told of an experience with a friend where she had just washed down a handful of powerful painkillers with a glass of wine and was waiting for “that lovely opiate hit”.

Curtis said the friend “told me, in a heavy whisper, ‘You’re not Jamie.’ That comment planted a seed.”

Shortly after, she read an article by US author Tom Chiarella about his addiction to the same drug and knew she had a problem.

Curtis, famous for her roles in the Halloween horror franchise, went into rehab in February 1999 and has been clean and sober ever since.

She believes now she would be “dead for sure” had she not been able to conquer her addictions.

The actress said as well as more than a decade of sobriety, she also got rid of what she calls “vampire friendships”.
