PLANE PLUNGE T-SHIRTS FURY

- ■ by SIAN HEWITT

A ONLINE shop caused outrage by selling a T-shirt mocking the deaths of Afghans trying to flee the country.

ConaneShop on Etsy sold tops emblazoned with the words “Kabul Skydiving Club” next to the picture of a plane with people falling from it.

Last week, video footage showed desperate Afghans clinging to the side of a US plane before falling off mid-air.

Rustam Wahab, an Afghan man who lives in London and runs the UK Fact Check Politics firm, said: “It is absolutely disgusting that a clothing seller thought it was a good idea to make profits off the disturbing footage of Afghan civilians plunging to their deaths.”

Other shoppers agreed, with Mike Morcroft saying: “The sad thing is I’m not surprised.”

Rajat Thukral wrote: “It is such a disgrace. How can people capitalise on such incidents?”

Holly Dagres tweeted: “Someone decided to capitalise on their pain and misery with this repulsive T-shirt.”

A flurry of complaints were made to the store.

ConaneShop did not respond to our calls for comment but has removed the top from sale, replacing it with a “Pray for Afghanistan” T-shirt.
