Hogan doubles up at hapless Hatters
LEE BOWYER hailed his Blues buccaneers for putting in the best performance of his managerial career.
The Hatters were left hurting thanks to Scott Hogan’s brace plus goals from Marc Roberts and subs Gary Gardner and Chuks Aneke.
Blues boss Bowyer said: “That’s the best performance I have ever witnessed from any of my teams since I have been a manager.
“It was a complete 90 minutes. It ticked every box that you could possibly want from a manager – and it was away from home.
“That was a whole performance.”
It might have been a different story had Luton scored from the first chance of the game.
Roberts was booked for hacking down Harry Cornick and goalkeeper Matija Sarkic had to make a smart save to deny Tom Lockyer.
But it was plain sailing once Roberts headed home in the seventh minute.
Hogan then nodded in a copycat second from Tahith Chong’s cross 19 minutes later.
Luton found themselves 3-0 down in the 47th minute when Hogan latched onto his second to beat keeper Simon Sluga.
Sub Gardner rubbed it in with a superd fourth in the 85th minute – a curler into the top corner.
And there was still time for Aneke to stab home a fifth from close range.
Hatters boss Nathan Jones said: “I’m really disappointed and a little bit embarrassed by the scoreline and the level of performance but I don’t often get that from this group.
“They give me everything but we shot ourselves in the foot.”
