Reading floored by Godden’s late show

- By HECTOR NUNNS

MANAGER Mark Robins admitted Coventry’s last-gasp home wins are putting him through the wringer – and creating serious concerns for his own health.

The Sky Blues pulled off another dramatic come-from-behind home victory with subs Jamie Allen and Matty Godden grabbing the goals, the winner coming in the 98th minute.

That eclipsed even the first Championship game at the CBS Arena this season against Nottingham Forest when Kyle McFadzean sealed another thriller after 96 minutes.

Reading scored against the run of play in the 40th minute, John Swift earning a soft penalty and tucking away the spot-kick himself.

But Allen, who like Godden came on after 61 minutes, levelled with a 20-yard effort before the thrilling climax that left the Royals on their knees.

Robins said: “It was another late, late winner. I don’t mind it but I might be going to have a check-up on the club’s heart monitor and see how I’m going.

“We were very unfortunate to go a goal down in the first place against the run of play.

“Was it the best double substitution I’ve made? I’d like to say it was a regular occurrence but I would be lying.

“But sometimes you get it right.”

Reading looked nothing like last season’s promotion challengers.

Boss Veljko Paunovic said: “Unfortunately in the very last seconds we crumbled and conceded a goal.

“Our chance of a point vanished.”
