COOL WARMS UP

- With Jonathan Hobbs

COOLAVANNY BANI (1.57), who enjoyed a fruitful August with victory in the Summer Stayers Classic at Monmore, should continue in the same vein in heat one of the Stadium Bookmakers Empress Stakes over 500m at Towcester this afternoon.

Six heats of the bitches-only Category One competition spice a superb card at the Northamptonshire venue choc-full of open races, with the action live on SportyStuff TV/ RPGTV and SIS on a busy weekend for the channels.

The Angela Harrison-trained Coolavanny Bani is dropping down in distance for this heat of a brand new event but her all-round speed can make hay.

Other fancies at Towcester are Mark Wallis’s Antigua Lava (3.11) over 712m and, in their Empress heats, Wallis’s Black Eyed Molly (3.28), Gemma Evans’ Droopys Aoife (4.08) in a crackerjack clash with Coolavanny Aunty, and Patrick Janssens’ Bockos Melody (5.28).

Swindon stages the semi-finals of the 75th Two Year Old Produce Stakes where the votes go the way of Seamus Cahill’s Surprising (7.26), Richard Rees’s Khufu (7.41) and another Cahill runner Pocket Lola (7.58).

Finally a reminder about Towcester Rocks – a night of greyhound racing and music on September 26. On the track the Empress Stakes Final takes place, while Scouting For Girls, The Hoosiers, Reef and The Feeling will get the crowd rocking after racing.
