Moore earns top Mark as Sky Blues get home help

- By JANINE SELF

HOME sweet home is becoming the theme of Coventry’s season.

Back in their own city at last, Mark Robins’ team have a 100 per cent record at the renamed CBS Arena.

And the 19,000 or so who turned up got their money’s worth thanks to goals from Viktor Gyokeres and new boy Martyn Waghorn.

But both must step aside and allow Sky Blues keeper Simon Moore his moment in the sun.

Coventry recruited Moore on a free from Sheffield United and, at the age of 31, he has averaged 15 appearances a season for all his clubs – but now he has hold of the jersey.

And it was his brilliant treble save from Onel Hernandez, Isaiah Jones and Uche Ikpeazu which set up this win.

Robins said: “The keeper was magnificent with that triple save. He is a brilliant lad but has been out for a while. He’s worked his socks off and is a model pro.”

Boro boss Neil Warnock expressed “disappointment” at the way some of his senior players reacted to the defeat.

He said: “The goalie was brilliant and it knocked us down. We didn’t look like scoring. We looked a bit Sunday League as if we hadn’t practised.”

The deadlock was broken by Gyokeres, who rode a succession of tackles, rounded keeper Joe Lumley and kept his balance to shoot.

And in the dying minutes of added time, Waghorn scored his first for Coventry.
