ROONEY LIFT AT HOME TO OWN WINE CELLAR

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by MATT ACTON

WAYNE Rooney’s new home has a private lift to whisk him from the wine cellar to the bedroom.

The Man United legend’s mansion has two lifts – one of which is Wayne and his wife Coleen’s private elevator. A friend of the star told us: “Wayne loves a nice bottle of plonk and he will have loved splashing out on a lift to take him down to his wine room.

“He won’t be happy that his team Derby County are going down but he’ll cheer himself up by pressing the down button on his wine lift.” The master bedroom in the £20million Cheshire home is said to enjoy views across acres of farmland, plus a walk-in dressing room with stairs leading up to a mezzanine en-suite bathroom.

The Derby County manager’s wine room – the size of a normal bedroom – is climate-controlled with mood lighting.

There are drawers and shelves to safely house bottles, with racks and special hangers to show off selected favourites.

Rooney, 36, loves a chilled bottle of sauvignon blanc. While he was at Old Trafford he even appeared in an advert for one of United’s sponsors – a wine firm.

If his stocks run low, he won’t have far to go to replenish his cellar as he has leading wine merchant Hammonds of Knutsford just down the road.

He could sample their Margaux Private Reserve for £30, while sauvignon blanc costs around £25.

They also sell Krug champagne at £250 a pop and a Jeroboam of Moët & Chandon for around £275.

Rooney, who made headlines when he washed down his 28th birthday cake with a £2,000 bottle of Chateau Petrus red, is believed to have spent around £100,000 stocking his cellar.
