Stonewall pen gives Morison headache
STEVE MORISON could not believe his luck after his Cardiff side were denied a clear penalty on his return to Millwall.
The former Lions striker was left shaking his head when Tommy Doyle’s
47th-minute shot seemed to strike Jake Cooper’s outstretched arm – but only resulted in a corner.
Morison said: “We should have had a penalty and then it might have been a different game.
“It was a stonewall penalty. If diving and stopping the ball with your hands is natural, then it is new to me.
“But it was a game too far for us. I think physically we struggled with the game and lacked intensity in our press.
“Sometimes you have to take it on the chin.”
The game turned when Cardiff keeper Alex Smithies failed to cleanly handle a
73rd-minute cross. He pushed the easy take out for a corner and Murray Wallace was left unmarked to head in Scott Malone’s delivery.
Sub Mason Bennett added what proved to be a crucial 82nd-minute second for the home side as he slotted home from close range after nice play from George Saville.
Joel Bagan pulled a goal back in injury time for the Bluebirds but it was too little, too late.
Lions boss Gary Rowett said: “Second half we were really good and had a bit more zip about us.
“The second goal was a really good one.
“Sav comes out of nowhere to make an attacking run and Mason gets a brilliant header.”
