BRUNO LAGE believes Antonio Conte will be given time to make his mark at Spurs – unlike Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Wolves’ boss says his compatriot wasn’t given sufficient leeway to implement the trusted methods that propelled the Black Country club into the top half of the Premier League.

Lage said: “Of course, I have sympathy for what happened to Nuno.

“Antonio Conte is asking for time to work – to find that consistency in his team. I can say the same about Nuno.

“He was manager of the month in the first few weeks of the season – even though he had a lot of problems with players coming back from their national tams without too much preparation.

“After a few months, he’s sacked. “What we all need as managers – and Conte is asking for more time – is time to work. It’s very hard. We need that time to make everyone think and play in the same way.”

Lage’s players were upset but were equally given a compliment at the end of the final whistle after the defeat against Arsenal on Thursday.

Ruben Neves questioned why the Gunners celebrated so wildly on the Molineux pitch after their 1-0 victory, albeit the visitors played a large chunk of the second half with 10 men. Lage (left) said: “The challenge for us is that we play a little bit like underdogs to fight against the bigger teams.

“We need personality to play against them.

“My first words after the Arsenal game were that we needed to move on, to take what we did into the Spurs game.

“To play with a good tempo, with good performances and creating good chances.”
