Here comes ANOTHER Beast from the East..

- ■ by ALISTAIR GRANT sunday@dailystar.co.uk

BRITAIN faces a mini Beast from the East this spring, with the mercury dropping to -8C as winter leaves a sting in its tail.

The chilly blasts from Russia are expected to hit in March, with forecasters warning of icy air blowing over 1,000 miles to Britain.

Cold spells are due from next weekend, with snow flurries expected in the North as the mercury dips to -8C.

And the freezing weather will continue well into the following week.

The latest forecast follows a sunny weekend across most of the country.

March will echo the weather of 2018, when the infamous -12C Beast from the East brought deep snow to the UK.

Thousands of homes lost power, remote villages were cut off and transport chaos put paid to travel plans.

Forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: “The freezer door has been mostly shut all winter – but could it open just as spring arrives? Is it too late for a ‘Beast’? Perhaps we will see a chill wind from Russia, but also some spring sunshine.

“A sting in winter’s tail would not be a surprise.”

He added: “A feed of air from between the East and North has a chance of lowering temperatures by next weekend, with increasing indications of chillier winds from the same direction in the following week.”

And Met Office forecaster Marco Petagna said: “There is a massive change in forecast models for the month ahead, with potential to tap into colder air from Scandinavian high pressure.” The Met Office added: “Thursday sees snow over Scottish mountains and the risk of frosts follows.

“The following week sees average temperatures, and then March 13-27 is forecast to be mild but with the risk of brief colder spells.”
