ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities.

“I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.

“I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the club, players, staff, and fans.”

Meanwhile, boss Thomas Tuchel says he will seriously struggle to enjoy the League Cup Final because of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Tuchel feels uneasy and awkward about competing for silverware – and celebrating should they win it.

He said: “Because it is so close and so fresh, with maybe bit of a bad conscience on Sunday. Are we allowed to fully engage and fully celebrate? Is this inappropriate?

“I have to say, this is how I feel about it because it is so new and so fresh. So it is a bit of a mixed feeling.”

Abramovich’s perceived links to Russian President Putin mean most neutrals will want Chelsea to lose to Liverpool – and over the rest of the season.

However, Tuchel (above) is adamant he will not be tempted to use that inevitable adverse reaction to create a siege mentality within the camp of the World and European champions.

The former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss added: “Sometimes we use these things, when you have decisions against you or feel like you are treated unfairly.

“In this case, I think the issue is too big. I understand the question but if you give it a second’s thought, I don’t see the point.”
