P’BOROUGH HULL
GRANT McCANN ended up embarrassed on his Peterborough return as the club that sacked him a month ago strolled to victory.
Posh are now rock bottom thanks to Tyler Smith’s first league goal for Hull and a classy Keane Lewis-Potter double.
McCann signed up for a second spell as Peterborough manager on Thursday.
Darren Ferguson walked a week ago to end his third spell as Posh boss but this was yet more sub-standard fare – and Manchester City are next up on Tuesday in the FA Cup!
McCann, a Posh player under Ferguson in happier times, said: “There’s a losing mentality around the place at the minute.
“We didn’t give the fans much to shout about but we will do in time.”
Smith eluded Ronnie Edwards to poke past keeper Steven Benda right in front of the near post to open the scoring.
Lewis-Potter rifled home a superb 20-yarder to make it 2-0 in the 51st minute.
Lewis Potter wasn’t finished though and stole the ball off sub Jorge Grant before racing through to beat Benda once more.
This time McCann was told he was getting sacked in the morning.
He said: “That’s unfortunate but that’s just the way fans are.”
Arveladze added: “Keane showed how good he is. He moved in so quick for the first and then ran 40 to 50 yards for the second one.”
