New kid Ziggy helps Lowe find stardust

-

JAMAL LOWE provided the stardust as his encore handed Bournemouth an under-pressure victory.

Lowe celebrated the birth of son Ziggy, his third child, on Thursday and wheeled away after his 89th-minute winner to show the name of his newborn on his undershirt.

It was the winger’s second last-gasp goal to save the Cherries in as many matches, having been banished to training on his own less than a month ago by Scott Parker.

Cherries boss Parker said: “It has been a big week for Jamal after his wife gave birth on Thursday.

“He has rounded off that week and there is no better feeling than scoring a winner.

“Three weeks ago Jamal was training on his own as he wasn’t in the squad but fair play to his resilience. He has shown his character.”

Bournemouth weren’t at their best as they made it four wins in a row.

They were forced to come from behind as Tommy Smith drilled in his first goal since netting on the final day of last season at the Vitality Stadium.

Morgan Fox’s first-half red, for lunging into Philip Billing, did little to help the hosts but Dominic Solanke bundled in his

20th league goal of the season and Lowe’s goalmouth scramble kept them second in the table.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill raged at referee Tim Robinson afterwards.

He said: “We were the better team until the red card, there is no doubt about that.

“The ref couldn’t wait to get the red card out. Morgan has overrun the ball a little bit but it isn’t even really a tackle.

“I’m at a loss how we had a player sent off.”
