PUTIN: I’LL ROLL OVER MOLDOVA

Tyrant ‘plans 2nd invasion’

- ■ by JOHN WARD john.ward@dailystar.co.uk

FEARS were mounting last night that mad Vlad Putin also has plans to invade Moldova.

The country’s foreign ministry said it had “deep concern” over comments by a top Kremlin military chief, who hinted at future action against the former Soviet state.

Rustam Minnekayev hinted Russian forces could move into Transnistria – internationally recognised as part of Moldova – in order to protect “oppressed” Russian speakers.

Minnekayev said Russia would also forge a corridor between Crimea – the Black Sea peninsula which it annexed in 2014 – and Donbas in eastern Ukraine. In response, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia’s invasion of his nation was just the beginning and Moscow had designs on capturing other countries.

He said: “All the nations that, like us, believe in the victory of life over death must fight with us.

“They must help us because we are the first in line.

“And who will come next?” Russia’s plan would cut off Ukraine’s entire coast and see troops pushing hundreds of miles further west, past the coastal cities of Mykolaiv and Odesa.

At least five people, including a threemonth-old baby, died in Odesa yesterday in a Russian missile attack on an apartment block.

Despite Moscow’s ambitions, UK military intelligence said that “counter-attacks” and “heavy fighting” were “frustrating” its attempts to capture the Donbas region.

Yesterday, President Zelenskyy spoke to Boris Johnson on the phone and thanked him for allowing members of Kyiv’s military to be trained here.

No 10 said: “The Prime Minister confirmed the UK is providing more defensive military aid, including protected mobility vehicles, drones and anti-tank weapons.”
