-

LEEDS’ record signing Rodrigo has been backed to maintain his hot goalscoring streak ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Crystal Palace.

The Spain striker arrived from Valencia in a £26million move in August 2020 but has flattered to deceive for much of his time at Elland Road.

Yet since Jesse Marsch replaced Marcelo Bielsa in February, Rodrigo, 31, has shown glimpses of his best form, bagging three goals in the past four games.

Leeds have taken 10 points during that sequence and Marsch (below) said: “I sensed early on that Rodrigo was a very important figure in the team for several different reasons.

“I know how much quality he has and I have watched his career over the years. He and I have a very good relationship and we have spoken often.

“I think I have challenged him to get better and better and understand what his role is. I have also invested in him as a person, a leader and a player.

“He’s been incredibly important and will continue to be so.”

Marsch has become a popular figure with Leeds players after the muchloved Bielsa was axed two months ago.

The American has immersed himself in the Yorkshire culture, taking trips to some of the county’s scenic spots.

He added: “I’m all about experiences in life, so coming here to Leeds United, I’m learning more and more about the identity of Yorkshire and what the people are like. “I can only say that I am loving it. The people have been fantastic and everyone has been positive.

“I’ve been to York, Harrogate, Knaresborough and on my days off I have tried to get around whole area and learn about the people here.”
