Fear factor massive for ‘little’ Wycombe
GARETH AINSWORTH reckons MK Dons are running scared of his “little Wycombe”.
MK have restricted Chairboys fans to just 2,200 tickets for tonight’s play-off semi-final second leg with their owner Pete Winkelman claiming it is an attempt to gain a “sporting advantage”.
Away fans at Stadium MK are usually offered up to 8,000 tickets for the 30,500-capacity venue.
The stadium is expected to be less than half full and Ainsworth (right) believes MK’s ploy will backfire.
He said: “If a team like MK
Dons is scared of little Wycombe, that’s brilliant to hear.
“I can’t believe that after Covid with all those people who couldn’t get tickets a decision has been made not to let all those people who want to come, come.
“It’s their decision but we’re proud we allowed everyone who wanted a ticket to get one for the first leg. Fans have not seen play-offs in two years so to not let people buy tickets is a kick in the teeth.”
Ainsworth’s side have a 2-0 advantage going into the second leg of this Bucks derby but he is refusing to get carried away.
He said: “I need to stay calm to get my messages into the
boys. “We might need a bit of luck but if we play like we did on Thursday we will have a real chance.” Ainsworth, who has been in charge at Adams Park for nearly 10 years, was recently linked with his boyhood club Blackburn and former side QPR.
But he said: “One day potentially Blackburn or QPR may tempt me. But I am a big believer of building.
“I’m very flattered to be linked but I know what I’ve got here.”
