COPS PROBE MESSAGES

TOWIE star Saffron Lempriere has called police over a web weirdo.

The businesswoman, 30, took action after being sent scores of sick sexual messages on social media app Instagram.

Officers had last night launched a probe. Saffron told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’ve got a really weird guy who messages me. It’s not flirting, it’s inappropriate, really horrible behaviour. The messages are very sexual.

“When I’m getting sexual and derogatory messages from 1am to 7pm every day, that’s a worry for me. He says things like, ‘I’m watching you, I want to do this to you.’

“That’s not right. Nobody should be a victim of that. It has had an effect on me and I’ve had to report it. I stepped it up to the police.

“They have said they will look into it and are taking it seriously.”

Saffron contacted police because she fears other people will be targeted if nothing is done about it.

She added: “Everyone on TV gets feedback online. It’s the nature of the game.

“I’ve been called fat on social media and that doesn’t bother me.

“But these messages are different. I reported this to the police because it should not be allowed. I did it for younger girls. If someone vulnerable got these messages, it would be awful.” Saffron wants social media companies to make changes to protect users. She said: “They need to make it so anyone starting an account has to show proper ID.

“The Government uses that sort of procedure, so why don’t social media sites?

“They haven’t got to grips with it. Everybody has been going to Parliament to try to sort it, but nothing’s changed.” The Government has vowed to tackle issues on social media with the Online Safety Bill but amendments have delayed it. Saffron will be back on TV in the new series of Towie tonight at 9pm on ITVBe.
