Callow Hall, Ashbourne, Derbyshire WHERE AND WHY
Located a short walk from the centre of historic Ashbourne, Callow Hall is a perfect location for a romantic stay, or a great base for walkers or cyclists.
The building dates back to Victorian times and is a Grade II listed hotel. It was recently bought by entrepreneur Ed Burrows and millions have been invested in the building to bring it up to the highest standards.
The 15 bedrooms have been created by interior designer Isabella Worsley’s London studio and have stunning furnishings. We were spoiled in a fabulous room complete with emperor size bed and free-standing bath overlooking the stunning Derbyshire countryside. There is also woodland accommodation in the shape of 11 bedroom Hives complete with bathroom, kitchenette and outdoor bathing.
ON THE MENU
The Garden Room restaurant has lovely views over the Peak District. Before our meal we enjoyed a cocktail and all the food was made from the fresh local produce.
I opted for an 8oz fillet steak which arrived with chips and juicy vine tomatoes, portobello mushrooms and rocket while my partner enjoyed a pork chop with Bramley apple compote, summer broccoli and cider jus.
She said the Callow Hall Herb Garden dessert was the best she had ever tasted.
I tucked into a delicious cheese board while enjoying a glass of port. Starters are from £10, mains from £20 and desserts from £3.50.
WHILE YOU’RE THERE
The Coach House is where you can go to plan an adventure via the Map Room.
Bikes are available to hire on site to venture out to the nearby Tissington Trail.
For people who want to stay closer to home there are lovely walks around the estate’s 35-acre woodland.
The Coach Room also has interactive bikes and rowing machines, an area for yoga, a sauna and treatment rooms.
As well as enjoying a nice walk around the estate we loved to relax on the outdoor seating area, where you can soak up the stunning scenery.
The stay was memorable and made more special by the friendly and welcoming staff.
