LUTON boss Nathan Jones dedicated his side’s first win of the season to former Cardiff City fan Roger Thomas at the end of an emotional week for him.

Having seen his side lose 2-0 at Bristol City on Tuesday night in a performance he described as “embarrassing”, he then had to head home to the Rhondda Valley to attend a funeral.

“I’ve had a couple of emotional days having had to come home to bury the father of one of my friends on Friday and that win is dedicated to Roger – he would have enjoyed that,” said Jones.

“It means everything to me after what’s happened.

“We were terrible in midweek and went away from being us, but today we were outstanding – that’s as good an away performance as you’ll see.”

Jones’ plan to press high worked superbly in the first half and led to the visitors opening the scoring in the 14th minute.

The ball was swung in from a corner, Andy Fisher’s punch fell straight to Allan Campbell and he fired home from the edge of the box.

Swansea had to wait until the 68th minute before they had a shot on target but four minutes later Carlton Morris doubled the Luton lead with a great finish.

It was a seventh game without a win at home for the Swans. Manager Russell Martin said: “I actually think two away games will be good for them. We have young men who are trying to learn and get through those moments.”

SWANSEA: Fisher 5; Wood 5 (Naughton (46) 5), Cabango 5, Darling 5; Sorinola 4 (Congreve (67) 6), Allen 7 (Cooper (75) 5), Grimes 6, Manning 5; Ntcham 5, Piroe 4, Obafemi 5

LUTON: Horvath 6; Lockyer 7, Burke 6, Potts 7; Bell 6, Clarke 6, Campbell 7, Bree; Freeman 6 (Osho (60) 5); Adebayo 7 (Morris (60) 7), Muskwe 7 (Jerome (60) 6)

STAR MAN: Elijah Adebayo. Frightened the living daylights out of the Swansea defence and set the physical tone for Luton’s win.
