Yvette’s scariest encounter

- ■ EXCLUSIVE by ED GLEAVE

A PING pong poltergeist put the willies up telly presenter Yvette Fielding.

The ghost hunter, 53, rates the encounter among the scariest she has faced in two decades of paranormal investigations. Former Blue Peter host Yvette has appeared in a string of shows about things that go bump in the night, including Most Haunted and Celebrity Ghost Stories. And at times she has feared her work could push her to breaking point. Of the terrifying table tennis-loving spook she said: “It was a house on a council estate. “No-one could live in it since the 1970s.

“We had the most extraordinary frightening phenomena. We’d had a carving knife wedged between the seats of the sofa, we’d had things thrown at us.

“And we’d had trigger objects… ping-pong balls. They were moving across the floor and then moving back again. “There was no logical explanation.” The incident, which took place in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, left Yvette badly shaken. On cult show Nub TV, she revealed: “I remember we finished the investigation and I was sat in the car crying, saying the Lord’s Prayer over and over again. It was just a really scary location.”

Yvette added: “I have had lots of frightening experiences where you question your sanity. You think, ‘If this carries on I’m going to need looking after.’” Another terrifying moment happened during filming at the Edinburgh Vaults.

Yvette recalled how a violent spirit slashed a crew member.

She said: “I watched, for the first time, people being scratched and harmed. The sound man ended up in A&E having stitches because something had cut his leg.

I resigned that night. I was like, ‘What the hell? What are we dealing with here? I don’t want to do it anymore. This is too scary.’”

Yvette is a guest on the new series of Nub TV, which airs on Thursdays at 9pm on Sky TV Channel 186.
