Ince strikes but dad wants more for promotion push

- WIGAN By LUKE McGOVERN

PAUL INCE will not be giving son Tom any pocket money this week, despite his sublime match-winning free-kick settling the game for the Royals.

His second-half strike earned the Royals a sixth league victory this term and ensured the Latics are winless from their five home matches.

But father Paul feels Tom needs to show a ruthless streak if Reading are to push for promotion, saying: “I expect Tom to get double figures this season. He should have three already, but he missed one today, so he won’t be getting any pocket money.”

Boss Ince hailed his team’s resilience as they bounced back with a win after losing to Sunderland. He said: “The lads put in a brilliant performance to bounce back from the defeat mid-week.”

After a lacklustre first half, the only goal of the game came after the hour mark when Ince was brought down on the edge of the box and he dispatched the free-kick into the top corner.

Wigan almost hit straight back when James McClean whipped in a cross from the left finding Will Keane, but his glancing header was denied by the post.

Latics boss Leam Richardson said: “It was a game we could have won, we had the momentum and possession without really turning it into penetration.

“This league is unforgiving and if you’re not at it teams will ask you questions.”
