“It’s very easy to be next to the players when they’re winning and performing.

“But these are the moments when I love my players more and my staff more – and we’re going to stay together.

“This journey is going to be difficult and challenging and there’s going to be big stones in the middle to overcome.

“Now we have to prepare the week really well to get to Saturday with the right emotional spirit to beat Brentford.”

New Everton boss Dyche was delighted with the commitment his team showed and he also paid tribute to the supporters who turned Goodison into a cauldron.

Dyche said: “I have been in this place when the fans haven’t been happy and I’ve been in here when it’s rocking – and today it was rocking.

“I respect the views of the fans and the fact that they still came here to show their support.

“They gave us momentum at the start of the game and they gave us respite in the times when we needed it.

“My aim is to respect the past of the club but also build for the future.”

Tarkowski said: “What an atmosphere. Fair play to the fans, its been tough times. It’s been a change of management that we’ve had to buy into straight away.

“It’s been tough for us, the fans and the staff.

“Hopefully it’s the turning point. We’ve got to get our heads down and crack on.

“I need to score more to be fair. I’m good in my own box, I just need a few more in the other box.

“We’ve not lacked technical ability, we’ve just lacked a bit of grit at times. That’s what fans want to see.”
