SAINTS BOSS COPS FANS’ FLAK

- By Tom Hopkinson AT GTECH COMMUNITY STADIUM

NATHAN JONES came out fighting after Southampton fans turned on their manager on a dismal day in West London.

The songs started just after the hour mark with the rock-bottom Saints two down after first-half goals from Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo.

‘You don’t know what you’re doing’, they sang as on-loan Manchester City starlet Romeo Lavia was substituted, before a rendition of, ‘Nathan Jones, your football is s**t’.

Soon after Mathias Jensen had made it three, it got worse, with, ‘Sacked in the morning’, and, ‘Nathan Jones, get out of our club’, coming from the away end.

But Jones said: “I’ve compromised certain principles because of personnel and the way people want to play, because of fans and so on.

“I’ve compromised on a few little things but, no more. Now I will live and die by my own philosophy.

“Fans saw a performance here that justified what they were saying. All I can say is, ‘I totally understand’. But was Romeo Lavia running the game? Was he out-battling their side? If he was, the fans were watching a different game to me.”

One man whose football definitely isn’t s**t is Thomas Frank as Brentford sit in the European places deep into the season.

Frank said: “In the first half the overall performance was perhaps the most complete we have had all season.

“Overall it was a very good win and I’m very pleased with that.”
