Ty not only Villan to warrant closer look says Daley

TYRONE MINGS’ England recall is richly deserved following a sensational seven months for Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

And he will not be the only Villan banging on the Three Lions’ door between now and the start of Euro 2024, with Ollie Watkins and Jacob Ramsey next in line.

That’s the message from former England and Villa winger Tony Daley (right), who has witnessed first-hand the amazing resurgence of the Midlands men since Emery assumed the reins last October.

The Villa ambassador is adamant that nobody warrants a return to Gareth Southgate’s squad for the forthcoming Euro qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia more than Mings.

Central defender, Mings 30, had to overcome the shock of being dropped last August – and stripped of the club captaincy – by previous boss Steven Gerrard.

Then, having regained his place, he just got better by the game under the astute watch of Emery.

“It’s been absolutely amazing – the way he handled losing the captaincy was outstanding,” said

Daley,

55, capped seven times by

England. “To go from that to where is he is now is pretty special. As soon as Emery comes in, Tyrone has grown and grown and grown... into this fantastic player again.

“That’s because his decision-making and concentration has improved beyond recognition. He really deserves his England place. It’s a genuine reward.”

And Daley is tipping two more at Villa to follow Mings (below left) into the England squad sooner rather than later. In fact, he argues Watkins, 27 (below right) and Ramsey, 22, must already be on the brink.

Daley, professional fitness coach and consultant at 7D Fit for Life, said: “Eyebrows were raised when Danny Ings went in January. It left Villa with only one striker.

“Then, again, who’s to question the manager at the moment! He said, ‘you’re number one’ to Watkins, who has been immense ever since.”

As for Under-21s starlet Ramsey, Daley added: “His ability to drive with the ball creates havoc. He’s such a threat.”
