The brutality will be needed to access the devices which are unlocked by a fingerprint scan.
The Touch ID technology features on Apple’s new iPhone, the 5S, which launches later this month.
It is built into the home button and uses a laser-cut sapphire and a sensor to take an image of the user’s fingerprint. But Marc Rogers, of mobile securityfirmLookout,said:“Thieves insomeregionshaveworkedoutthat you can force a victim to unlock a secured device, and in some extreme cases have also mutilated victims in order to steal their fingerprint.”
He added that fraudsters already lift and duplicate prints with technology that “is only going to improve with time”, but admitted fingerprint scanners “if done right, can be much more convenient than entering a pin code multiple times a day”.
Meanwhile, cheating lovers are celebrating the new fingerprint technology which will make it easier to keep their sex-texting antics secret, according to a website for love rats.
