Iron man Tom is a real hero HULL ACE FIGHTS BACK

- By JULIE STOTT 1 2 3 4

A SOCIAL media video clip of Rangi Chase’s brilliance has been watched by more than a million people – and still rising.

But the staggering thing isn’t the Salford half-back’s super skills in last Saturday’s 32-28 win over Hull.

It’s the fact that people outside rugby league seem to be genuinely stunned by what he did.

The New Zealand-born

TOM LINEHAM is Hull’s very own Iron Man – and he’s on the rampage.

The 21-year-old winger may fall short of having super-human powers like the character in the 2008 movie.

But his steely determination – and metal fittings – could make him a force to be reckoned with this season.

Lineham nearly quit the sport last year after breaking both legs within months of one another.

He said: “It was horrible, demoralising and really tough mentally. I thought that if I got one more serious injury I would have some time out of the game.

“When you cannot walk, and you’re totally dependent on other people, you don’t enjoy life.

“I couldn’t look after myself and had to move back in with my parents. You start to question whether rugby is worth it.”

Lineham discovered the will to fight on after having 10cm titanium rods fitted into both legs.

He said: “My legs clearly weren’t strong enough before but they’re metal now so they’re definitely a lot stronger.

“When I came back the second time, I’ll admit I was terrified and I was so off the pace.

“But towards the back end of last season I got my confidence back and started enjoying playing again.

“Now I want to try and put the injuries behind me and do my best for the team.”

Lineham, a member of the 2013 Super League Dream Team, has played all three Hull games this season and scored twice.

But he claims the entire team needs to improve if they hope to stop Leeds’ unbeaten start tonight at the KC Stadium.

He said: “We did well to beat Huddersfield but lost to both Warrington and Salford when we could have won both games.”
