Start’s perfect thanks to Kim

BO-KYUNG KIM gave David Sharpe the perfect start to his new role as Wigan chairman.

Dave Whelan’s grandson proudly watched from the director’s box as his struggling side caused a huge upset.

Incredibly, the 23-yearold was younger than all but one of the Latics side that started at Carrow Road.

Sharpe was celebrating almost straight the away specialists stunned the home side by snatching a shock lead with virtually their first attack.

An eighth minute throw-in was powerfully nodded on by James McClean and Korean midfielder Kim lashed an unstoppable left-foot volley past England keeper John Ruddy.

It was Kim’s second goal since following Latics boss Malky Mackay from former club Cardiff last month – and left the Canary fans rubbing their eyes in disbelief.

Second from bottom Wigan were supposed to be cannon fodder for the in-form Canaries, who were chasing their seventh win on the spin under boss Alex Neil.

But the Latics clearly hadn’t read the script and they showed bags of spirit and effort.

Mackay was Norwich captain when they won promotion from the Championship under Nigel Worthington in 2004 and he had his side fired up for this one.

Wigan keeper Scott Carson was barely troubled before the break, making just one save of note from Norwich’s Swedish left back Martin Olsson.

Even Seb Bassong went up to join the Canary attack but he could only blaze over from winger Nathan Redmond’s low 62nd-minute cross.

They finally came close following a free-kick from Graham Dorrans.

Cameron Jerome headed on but midfielder Bradley Johnson couldn’t turn it in.

And Wigan nearly snatched a second goal seconds later, with Ruddy taking a through ball off the toes of striker Marc-Antoine Fortune.
