THE world got its first ever close-up view of Pluto yesterday. US probe New Horizons, travelling through space at 300,000mph, captured the historic image.

Mission Control staff in Maryland cheered and waved American flags as their spacecraft reached its target after more than nine years. Sensational new close-up pictures were due to be beamed back overnight. They are expected to give the best view yet of the dwarf planet.

SCENT OF VICTORY: Hunt protester GEORGE Osborne has vowed that Brit taxpayers will not pay a penny towards the £60billion Greece bailout.

The Chancellor says the euro countries must “foot their own bill”.

DAVID Cameron has been forced into a humiliating climbdown by the SNP over plans to water down the fox hunting ban.

He postponed today’s vote as his proposed changes looked doomed to failure.

The PM faced opposition from most Labour MPs, some anti-hunting Conservatives and the SNP.

The vote would have brought the law south of the border in line with that in Scotland, where an unlimited number of dogs can be used to “flush out” a fox to be shot. Pest ministers not to try to make Britain responsible for £1bn of loans.

Mr Osborne said: “Britain is not in the euro, so the idea that British taxpayers are going to be on the line for this Greek deal is a complete non-starter.” control was a reason given to make changes. Currently just two hounds are allowed in England and Wales.

But the SNP’s 56 MPs agreed yesterday to break with their normal practice of not voting on England-only matters and declared they would join Labour in opposing the proposal.

Blaming the SNP’s leader for the cancelled vote, a Downing Street source said: “This happened because Nicola Sturgeon has done a 180-degree U-turn.” It is thought the Government will try to reintroduce the vote in the autumn after rules have been introduced to prevent Scottish MPs voting on England-only matters.

Labour’s Maria Eagle said: “David Cameron is now running scared because he knew he was going to lose the vote.”

Celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Morrissey have joined the campaign against the change.
